Zach Wilson might ultimately benefit from the New York Jets trading for Aaron Rodgers. But he can’t be feeling all that great about himself right now. It’s probably very difficult to remain upbeat when you join a team as the second overall draft pick to see them chasing a 39-year-old man to replace you just two years later.
The Jets haven’t quite gotten Rodgers yet as the Green Bay Packers will have to agree to trade him. But the quarterback made his intentions clear this Wednesday, revealing his decision via the Pat McAfee Show.
The Jets badly want Rodgers as they reckon they only need a better quarterback to take them to the top. Apparently, that’s not Wilson – at least not yet.
Back in January, Wilson was asked about his feelings on the team possibly bringing a veteran in this year and claimed he would make life very difficult for whoever it is. It’s pretty hard to imagine him making anything difficult for Rodgers, though.
Who knows? Maybe that will actually turn out to be the case. But Rodgers could completely bomb in training camp and preseason and will still start ahead of Wilson. The Jets aren’t paying anyone $60 million to sit on the bench.

Maybe this is actually for the best where the youngster’s career is concerned. He will get to see exactly how Rodgers goes about life as one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history and then have a second go at being the Jets’ lead man.
Meanwhile, the two players are said to have developed a good relationship, while Wilson has made no secret of Rodgers being his idol.
