NFL free agent Odell Beckham Jr. was removed by police from an aircraft before takeoff at Miami International Airport after officials said he failed to respond to requests to buckle his seatbelt and appeared to be going in and out of conscious.
Personnel were called to the airplane for the apparent medical situation. When Odell Beckham was told he needed to exit the airplane due to a possible health risk of not being able to make it through the flight, he allegedly refused.
“Fearing that Mr. Beckham was seriously ill, and that his condition would worsen through the expected 5 hour flight, (flight crew members) called for police and fire rescue,” Miami Dade Police Officer Luis Sierra said in a statement following the 9:30 a.m. Sunday incident.
“As they tried to wake (Beckham) to fasten his seat belt, he appeared to be coming in and out of consciousness,” the statement said.
While he was removed, the other passengers re-boarded and the flight departed later for Los Angeles. Video of the NFL free agent wide receiver walking through the airport has since gone viral.
It’s unclear if anything will happen to Odell Backham Jr. moving forward. It’s also unclear if this will impact his free agency interest from teams like the Cowboys, Giants and Bills.
In the meantime, on Facebook, a reel of him on a previous flight shows him with a 5-hour energy drink and a cup of orange juice. The caption on Odell Backham Jr’s facebook video said, “life hacks,” which suggests he definitely had some other liquid in that bottle to mix with the juice.
