Despite being a key player on the Buffalo Bills defense this season, second-year safety Damar Hamlin wasn’t exactly a popular name in the NFL world.
Sadly, that all changed last night, when the 24-year-old man collapsed on the field at Paycor Stadium during the first quarter of the Bills’ Monday Night Football contest against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Reports later indicated that Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest on the field and needed to have his heart resuscitated. After successful CPR got his heart going again following several intense minutes, he was rushed the the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he is currently said to be in critical condition.
Shortly after the frightening scene unfolded on televisions across America, many began to take the time to find out exactly who Damar Hamlin is. That resulted in many finding his toy drive fundraiser, which has since raised millions of dollars.
It also resulted in one of Damar Hamlin’s old tweets going viral, as many couldn’t help but notice how much more relevant it because following last night’s events.

In the tweet, which is from September 2021, Hamlin tells his followers, “If you get a chance to show some love today do it! It won’t cost you nothing.”
Those are strong words from a man who could use all the love and support in the world right now.
Hamlin is not only a football player. He’s a human being…and a very kind one based on his charitable work and his tweets. Let’s all continue to pray for this young man.
