The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles were slipping on turf in Super Bowl LVII all night long. It’s amazing the teams scored as much as they did.
A brand new field was in place at State Farm Stadium for Super Bowl 57 and it sucked terribly. The NFL spent two years preparing this playing surface in State Farm Stadium for the Super Bowl, and it stunk.
Now, we are finding out that Oklahoma State was likely to blame, because that is who is taking a bunch of criticism online. The school provided the surface for the event and even confirmed it.
“The Super Bowl is being played on okstate turfgrass!” Oklahoma State tweeted right before kickoff.
According to the ESPN feature about the grass, its official title is “Tahoma 31” and it’s one of “the newer breeds of grass that have been developed with the funding of the United States Golf Association.”
“Tahoma 31 is a mix of two types of Bermuda grasses and rye grass, and it was developed at Oklahoma State University under the watchful eye of Dr. Yanqi Wu,” said ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss. “He started the process of creating Tahoma 31 in 2006, when he crossed China Bermuda grass and African Bermuda grass. A year later, the seeds were harvested and the grass was tested and studied all over the country until 2018.”
