One NFL officiating crew could face discipline after a mistake-filled performance in Week 14, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The Kansas City Chiefs-Green Bay Packers Week 14 “Sunday Night Football” game was filled with botched calls and non-calls by Brad Allen and his officiating crew. That included a blatant defensive PI call against the Packers on the Chiefs’ final drive late in the fourth quarter that went uncalled:
Ahead of Sunday’s contest between the New York Jets and Houston Texans (officiated by Allen’s crew), Schefter reported that Allen and his crew would “be under increased scrutiny.” Schefter outlined that a porous performance in officiating could lead to discipline:
“Officials are evaluated on every play of every game. League officiating staff analyze the performance of every official, both for the calls that are made and those that are not. That review results in a grade which plays a major role in determining how to help the officials improve their performance as well as decide which officials will officiate in the playoffs. There are also year-end evaluations of every official…
Allen’s crew will be under increased scrutiny when they officiate Sunday’s game at MetLife Stadium between the Texans and Jets. Many, including the NFL, will be watching to see if there’s another decision by Allen’s crew that draws the ire of teams the way it did the past two weeks.”
Well, Allen’s crew wound up making one major mind-boggling call in the Texans-Jets game on Sunday, when defensive lineman Quinnen Williams was flagged for “roughing the passer” on C.J. Stroud despite making minimal contact on this play:

So this right here is something to monitor in the coming days. Allen and his crew very well face discipline this week following another inexcusable blown call.
The one silver lining for Allen’s crew? The botched call didn’t have an outcome on the game anyway, as the Jets cruised to a stunning 30-6 blowout win over Stroud and the heavily-favored Texans.
Allen’s crew certainly isn’t facing the most scrutiny this week, either. That dishonor belongs to Carl Cheffers’ crew, who made a questionable offside penalty call against Kadarius Toney late in the Chiefs’ Week 14 home loss to the Buffalo Bills.
