Odell Beckham Jr. will be catching passes for the Baltimore Ravens next season but is reported to have come close to joining the New York Jets.
The Jets were keen on acquiring the wide receiver, who was reported to be one of the players Aaron Rodgers requested that the team sign. But he’s since agreed to a deal with the Ravens and could be playing alongside Lamar Jackson in 2023.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Jets made a very competitive contract offer to the wideout, who “probably should’ve been a Jet,” based on a source. But the player opted to join the Ravens instead as they proposed better financial terms.
Baltimore is giving Beckham a fully-guaranteed $15 million that could rise to $18 million should he meet certain incentives.
“That’s something the Jets couldn’t quite get to,” Fowler said (H/T Bleacher Report). “Maybe if there was more time, they would’ve gotten close enough to get it done. I do believe Beckham was intrigued about playing with Aaron Rodgers. Aaron Rodgers was intrigued about playing with Beckham. Just didn’t come together, but it was very close.”
There were other teams interested in the WR yet none of them were willing to hand him the type of contract Baltimore did, given the fact that he’s turned 30 and spent all of last season out with an ACL tear.
