Veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. sent a kind message to San Francisco 49ers wideout Deebo Samuel after the latter suffered an ankle injury in Sunday’s Week 14 game between the San Francisco 49ers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Samuel left the game in the second quarter with an ankle injury after running the ball up the middle for a short gain. It was initially believed to have been a knee injury, but the 49ers later ruled him out with an ankle injury.
Fortunately for the 49ers, Samuel apparently avoided a serious injury, according to Jordan Schultz of theScore:
Samuel was having a productive game for the NFC West leaders before suffering the injury. He had four receptions for 43 yards and four carries for 21 rushing yards and a rushing score. The 49ers crushed the Buccaneers for a sixth consecutive win to improve to 9-4 on the year with four regular season games to go.
Coming into Sunday’s action, the 26-year-old Samuel had 86 receptions for 569 yards and a pair of touchdowns. In the offseason, the superstar wideout was handed a massive three-year contract extension worth $71.55 million.

As for Beckham, he remains a free agent as he continues to recover from a torn ACL that he suffered in the Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl 56 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in February. The 30-year-old has visited the Buffalo Bills, New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys, but there’s no firm timeline on when he may make a decision.
If Samuel misses considerable time, perhaps the 49ers would consider adding the 2014 Offensive Rookie of the Year to their roster. We’ll just have to wait and see what Kyle Shanahan and company have to say after the game.
The 49ers are on a short week and will next visit the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night.
