With Nathaniel Hackett officially out the door in Denver, it’s time for the Broncos to look ahead and figure out who their next coach will be.
The people at BetOnline seem to think they have an idea of who could be next in line to lead Russell Wilson and company. And if they Broncos are smart, they’ll use this list as a guide for their upcoming coaching search.
At the very top of the oddsmakers’ list is Sean Payton at +400, which would probably be the dream hire for the Broncos at this point. If anyone can fix Russell Wilson and the offense, it is the man who turned Drew Brees into one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history.
But even if they strike out on Payton, there are a ton of other intriguing names right behind him.
Next up at +500 is current Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who has a relationship with Wilson from their Seahawks days. And he’s accompanied by another great defensive mind in 49ers DC Demeco Ryans at +750.
The list however, features much more offensive minded coaches than defensive guys.
In addition to Payton, there’s also former Colts and Lions head coach Jim Caldwell (+600), current Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen (+700), and current Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy (+900).

Of course, it’s totally possible that the Broncos go completely off the board and take someone who’s not even on this list. At this point, nothing would surprise us from this franchise.
The good news for Broncos fans is their team decided not to wait until the end of the season to fire Hackett—which means they’ll now get a head start on recruiting some of these currently-unemployed candidates, like Payton, Caldwell and Frank Reich.
