People were expected to lose their jobs as a result of the whole Tua Tagovailoa concussion controversy, and it appears as though that process has officially begun.
Earlier today, it was announced that the NFL Players Association had exercised their ability to terminate the unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant who cleared Tua to return to the Miami Dolphins’ week 3 game against the Buffalo Bills.
According to CBS’s Jonathan Jones, the union’s investigation into the matter found that the independent doctor who cleared Tua made “several mistakes” in their decision-making process. The investigation into the matter is still ongoing.
Tua Tagovailoa took a hard hit from Bills linebacker Matt Milano late in the first half of that contest. After getting up, CBS cameras caught Tua holding his head and noticeably stumbling. He was taken out of the game and placed in concussion protocol, but apparently passed all tests in time to return for the start of the second half.
Despite all the scrutiny that the Dolphins and the NFL faced for allowing Tua to re-enter the game, they never strayed from their claim that Tua’s back locked up—and that he never had a head injury.
Fast forward five days later, and Tua was being stretchered of the field in Cincinnati on Thursday night after seemingly suffering his second head injury in less than a week.
