Thom Mayer has been the medical director for the NFL Players association for 21 years now, but he recently took on another job, as he traveled to Ukraine to help the country out during their deadly war with Russia.
Mayer traveled to Ukraine to lead a Team Rubicon mobile emergency team, as they helped treat almost 350 patients, while also training 1,700 local medical personnel in areas such as “mass casualty response and tactical combat casualty care.”
Thom spent three weeks in Ukraine before returning to the United States. Unfortunately, while Thom’s mission in the war-ravaged country may be over, the senseless killing of thousands of Ukrainians at the hands of Russia continues.
This isn’t the first time he’s assisted with a world crisis. According to his Linkedin page, in 2001, Thom was part of the Command Physicians at the Pentagon Rescue Operation following the attacks on 9/11. During that time, he was responsible for “coordinating medical assets at the site.”
