The NFL Players Association is reportedly keeping tags on the Lamar Jackson saga as it’s being rumored that NFL teams are colluding to prevent another situation such as the one that saw Deshaun Watson land a fully-guaranteed $230 million contract last year.
The Baltimore Ravens have placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson, which means he’s free to negotiate with other teams. However, a number of outfits that clearly need a quarterback have reportedly removed themselves from the race for the player’s signature.
Those teams are said to be the Atlanta Falcons, who were the most heavily linked, the Washington Commanders, Miami Dolphins, Carolina Panthers, and Las Vegas Raiders. The Raiders are said to still be keeping their options open yet the reports have still raised questions, with former NFL stars such as J.J. Watt and Robert Griffin III offering reactions on Twitter.
According to Trey Wingo, the NFLPA is closely monitoring the situation as it’s beginning to seem like teams are working together to freeze Jackson out of the market.
“Regarding this: spoke with sources at NFLPA and they’re keeping a very close eye on the Lamar situation for that very reason,” Wingo tweeted. “Regarding the C word ‘there’s constant concern about that’.”

Ravens GM Eric DeCosta has said the team will continue to negotiate with the quarterback “in good faith” and there’s still hope they could reach a deal that’s fair to both parties.
It must be noted that teams could harbor concerns regarding Jackson’s health as he’s missed significant time over the past two seasons.
