The final mandatory minicamp practice took place for the Baltimore Ravens last Thursday, and nothing has changed when it comes to Lamar Jackson getting a new deal.
The fifth-year quarterback resumed extension talks with the Ravens last week, but Steve Bisciotti, Eric DeCosta, and John Harbaugh all indicated Jackson was not prioritizing an extension.
Many analysts around the league have said that Jackson shouldn’t step on the field without a contract extension. When asked if he agreed with that notion, Jackson kept his answer short and simple:
“No, no, I don’t buy into it at all. I play football; that’s what I’m here for.”
NFL insider Josina Anderson came up with an interesting negotiating tactic for Jackson as she suggested he should present Deshaun Watson’s contract to the Ravens’ front office and ask for $10 million more than what he’s getting paid.
“If I’m Lamar Jackson I just put Deshaun Watson’s contract on the table & say do about ten more million than this, five more million than this and we’re good!”

Jackson, who claims he put on 12 pounds of muscle this offseason, wants to keep the contract negotiations private. Watson receiving $230 million have no effect on him or on what he wants from the new deal.
“I’m a man of my own. I don’t worry about what those guys get,” Watson said.
As it currently stands, Jackson will play on the fifth-year option in 2022.
