2022 marked the much-needed elimination of the ‘one-helmet rule.’ You know, the one that discouraged teams from rocking their historic color schemes and further sucked the fun out of NFL football.
There were a number of franchises that rolled out phenomenal throwbacks, but supply chain issues limited the number of teams that joined the movement in 2020. Thankfully, those issues are fading further into the background and in 2023 we will see another wave of franchises partake in the nostalgia-marketing hybrid that is throwback jerseys.
Lets take a look at the 4 NFL teams making a comeback with epic throwback jerseys in 2023.
Seattle Seahawks
For an organization that admittedly doesn’t have a ton of history, there is a lot of excitement building around the Seahawks bringing back the 1990s-era unis this season.
Seattle announced that the grand re-release, so to speak, is going to take place during a Week 8 match-up against the Cleveland Browns.

Given the team’s aforementioned lack of history, it isn’t a huge surprise that this announcement didn’t generate the same level of hype, but I expect all of that change at the end of October when we see these light blue jerseys streaking across the field and the NFL world is reminded of just how fresh these are.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Life after Tom Brady will likely not be glamorous for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Based on the roster moves they’ve made—or lack thereof, there is serious reason to believe that the franchise is primed to turn right back into a pumpkin, after their brief stint as a chariot with Brady under center.
There is at least a silver lining for any Bucs fans out there looking for one! The glorious return of the legendary creamsicle uniforms.
Now, this may not be the best decision considering how horrendous the team was back when this was their primary laundry… But if they are going to stink, they may as well look cool doing it.
Tennessee Titans
The Tennessee Titans are crossing back over to the pre-merger days and breaking out the baby blue and white Houston Oilers throwback jerseys from their days as an AFL franchise.
The exact details have not been announced yet, but Titans writer, Jim Wyatt (and common sense) have suggested that they might wear it during their home matchup with the Houston Texans.
This isn’t the first time that the Music City franchise has worn Oilers throwbacks, but it has been over a decade since they’ve last made an appearance—and considering the popularity of the unis—you can expect to see it become a regular in the rotation.
Philadelphia Eagles
There will be some awesome, historic uniforms making an appearance in the City of Brotherly Love this year. The Eagles are bringing back the legendary “Kelly Green” uniforms for this season, extremely similar to what they wore from 1985 to 1995.
The Eagles, like the Titans, last wore this epic colorway back in 2010 and I would not be shocked to see these make more regular appearances as well.
Philly fans have to now be hoping that the Eagles’ d-lineman will start channeling the spirit of Reggie White! I mean, the guy did get double-digit sacks every year he was in Philly. Either way, it will be great to see the Kelly Green back on the field this year.
