Bridgewater completed five of 11 pass attempts for 34 yards. Nate Sudfeld saw most of the action in Detroit’s 25-7 loss, completing nine of 18 pass attempts for a touchdown and one interception.
The Lions signed the veteran journeyman to a one-year pact worth a max value of $5 million. Regarded as one of the best backup quarterbacks in football, Bridgewater is 33-32-0 as a starter with 75 touchdowns against 47 interceptions.
Jared Goff will open the 2023 season as the Lions’ starting quarterback. With the No. 68 pick in this year’s draft, the Lions drafted Tennessee dual-threat quarterback Hendon Hooker, so it remains to be seen who will back up Goff as the second-stringer.
The Lions, coming off their first winning season since 2017, will kick off the 2023 campaign with a road contest against the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL’s annual Kickoff Game on Sept.7.
