There are times when the NFL seems like a revolving door. Players and teams up and down round and round through the door. Winners and losers seemingly over and over again.
Here are Five NFL teams whose seasons are more than likely than not over and done again… and Five NFL Teams that still have a chance to rise and shine…again:
Already Over, Chicago Bears
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to tell you the Chicago Bears season is a complete disaster. The Bears entered the 2023 season with a lot of hype and with the potential chance of taking the NFC North Crown from their longtime rivals, the Green Bay Packers. The Bears started the season with dramatic loss after loss in repeating humiliating fashion.
Not to mention the Bears have had coaches with off-the-field issues come to light which resulted in their defensive coordinator, Alan Williams resigning in disgrace due to bad behavior. The Bears also have one of the league’s worst defenses. If the Bears continue to fall flat in every game, they could potentially earn the first two picks of the 2024 draft.
Still have a chance, Houston Texans
The Texans may be in rebuilding mode, but young rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud and head coach DeMeco Ryans have the Texans moving forward in a positive way. They may have dropped their first two games of the season, but they have managed to secure statement wins over the Jacksonville Jaguars and Pittsburgh Steelers in weeks three and four respectively. It’s only upward for this young and hungry Texans team!

Already Over, New York Giants
The Giants entered the 2023 season hoping to make a repeat playoff run similar to their surprise playoff appearance last season. The Giants have one of the worst offensive lines in the league which was ranked 29th overall before the start of week four according to PFF. It may be time to start focusing on taking a chance at a higher draft pick in 2024.
Still have a chance, Indianapolis Colts
The Colts are another surprise AFC South team that has been playing pretty well with rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson at the helm. Richardson is just what the Colts needed after going through random veteran signal callers throughout the years from the likes of Matt Ryan, Philip Rivers, and Carson Wentz. Richardson has been playing very well this season and will keep improving as the season progresses. The Colts’ defense shouldn’t be overlooked either. The pass rush is very good being led by DeForest Buckner and Shaq Leonard. Don’t be surprised if the Colts surprise everyone with a Wildcard run.
Already Over, Carolina Panthers
It’s been a weird ride for the Carolina Panthers. Rookie quarterback Bryce Young is experiencing rookie struggles as well as the Panthers coming up short in where it matters in key games all season long. The Panthers may have veterans such as Adam Theilen, Miles Sanders, D.J. Chark, and Hayden Hurst to work with, but the Panthers don’t have a true number-one wideout for Young to work with yet. Head coach Frank Reich also deserves some of the blame for the Panthers’ beginning struggles which has given the team their worst start since the 2010 season when they finished 2-14. The Panthers may be able to turn things around, but it may be too late for them to finish the season on a strong note. They may need to focus and resign themselves to rebuilding around Young for the future.
Still have a chance, Los Angeles Rams
The Rams are looking to rebound from a disastrous 5-12 season where they missed the playoffs due to injuries to their aging core of talented veterans. This Ram’s team has earned statement wins over the Seattle Seahawks and Indianapolis Colts and is looking to keep pushing for a playoff berth. The Rams do have issues to clean up in the red zone but have made improvements on the offensive line and play from Matthew Stafford. Rookie wide receiver Puka Nacua has stepped up for the Rams as a reliable pass catcher. Don’t be shocked if the Rams make a surprise appearance in the Wildcard round for the 2023 NFL Playoffs.
Already Over, Denver Broncos
The Broncos came into the 2023 season with a lot of hype surrounding the hire of head coach Sean Payton hoping to get Russell Wilson back on track to how he played during his time with the Seattle Seahawks. It truly hasn’t been that way in the Mile High City. The Broncos have struggled on defense, and it showed during the team’s week three 70-20 loss to the Miami Dolphins. Since the Broncos traded away linebacker Bradley Chubb to the Dolphins last season, the defense hasn’t had a strong pass rush to stop opposing offenses. It’s going to be a long and painful rebuild in Denver after this season.
Still have a chance, Los Angeles Chargers
Even though there are speculations about whether head coach Brandon Staley gets the boot from Los Angeles or not, the Chargers have been able to stay afloat in the AFC West. The Chargers started the season with two close game losses under their belt to the Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans in weeks one and two, but they have rebounded and secured wins over the Minnesota Vikings and Las Vegas Raiders respectively. Despite losing to the Dolphins on week one, the Chargers have made improvements to the ground game and have made improvements to the pass rush with Joey Bosa. After the week five bye week, the Chargers have a tough two games ahead of them against the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs, but have an easy two games against the New York Jets and Chicago Bears immediately after.
Already Over, Las Vegas Raiders
It has been a somewhat disastrous season in Sin City for the Raiders. Not only have they not been able to finish games on a high note, but they also have had off-field issues regarding Chandler Jones. As for what happens on the field, superstars DaVante Adams and Josh Jacobs are frustrated with how the Raiders are not playing disciplined football as well as Jimmy Garoppolo being placed in concussion protocol before their week four game. It looks to be another long and painful season for the silver and black in the desert.
Still have a chance, New Orleans Saints
The Saints may have dropped two key games in weeks three and four, but the NFC South is still open for anyone to take. The Saints do have a competitive stretch of games ahead of them but do have some potential victories in that span before they enter their week 11 bye week. With Alvin Kamara back in the lineup, things should pick up for the Saints slowly and steadily. The Saints are still a surprise team due to the lack of competition the NFC South has to offer outside of the Buccaneers who are also a surprise. It’s anyone’s division, and the Saints could shock us all and take it without anyone noticing.
