An NFC scout isn’t buying the hype on the New York Jets, despite the acquisition of four-time league MVP and perennial Pro Bowler Aaron Rodgers.
Ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft, the Jets completed a blockbuster trade that landed them the future Hall of Famer and signal-caller from the Green Bay Packers. With Rodgers now in town, the Jets are in a position to end a painful 13-year postseason drought.
But while speaking to Matt Lombardo of Heavy.com, one NFC scout blasted the Jets and stated they’ll still “suck.” That scout used a comment from legendary New York Jets’ executive George Young, the architect of the New York Giants’ first two Super Bowl championship teams:
“You have to remember, it’s still the Jets. They’re going to suck. George Young used to say, The (expletive) Jets always win the offseason, but when it comes to playing, they’ll always just be the (expletive) Jets.'”
New York sports teams like the Jets, Yankees, Mets, Rangers, Knicks and Nets certainly have long histories of adding big-named players in the offseason, only to play well below expectations. This year’s Mets and Yankees as well as the Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving-led Nets (2019-20 to 2022-23) are excellent examples of how landing star players doesn’t guarantee success by any means.

That said, Jets fans still have plenty of reason to be optimistic. They won seven games last year with a quarterback trio of Mike White, Joe Flacco and Zach Wilson, after all. Those three each completed under 60 percent of their pass attempts, and they threw 14 touchdowns against as many interceptions.
Without a doubt, Rodgers will serve as an upgrade over those three.
