Ben Roethlisberger has admitted he’s considered coming out of retirement and joining the San Francisco 49ers.
The team is in need of strengthening in the quarterback position, however, Brock Purdy stepped up to help them claim a statement win over Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this past Sunday. And, at least at the moment, he has the looks of a kid with a very bright future.
Purdy, though, got hurt during the game, with subsequent reports noting he was set for an MRI for an oblique injury. San Francisco would do well to get another QB on their books given that they’ve lost both Trey lance and Jimmy Garoppolo for the season.
With the playoffs fast approaching, who knows which moves they might consider making? As for Ben, the former Pittsburgh Steelers star revealed he’s given thought to returning and suiting up for the Niners.
“I thought about it,” he said on his Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger podcast this week. “That team is one of the better teams in football and that defense is really stinking good and they did it with Purdy.”
Brock Purdy’s Injury Shouldn’t Be A Huge Concern
Purdy stayed in the game after getting hurt on only the second drive of the game, so he’s likely ready to go, though San Francisco will be back in action this Thursday. They’re to face the Seattle Seahawks away.

While the 49ers do need reinforcements at the back, Roethlisberger hasn’t played in over a year. He’s also 40 years old.
Sure, he’s five years younger than Brady, but Brady hasn’t spent that long away from playing.
Who knows, though? The Niners could view him as a decent veteran backup for their overnight sensation.
