Thanks to the Denver Broncos’ stingy defense which held Justin Herbert to zero touchdown passes on Monday night, many football fans blasted the NFL and accused the league of being rigged.
Despite a whopping 57 pass attempts (37 completions), Herbert failed to record a single touchdown pass in the Los Angeles Chargers’ Week 6 home win in overtime over the Broncos. He finished with 238 passing yards and one interception. An Austin Ekeler rushing touchdown and four Dustin Hopkins field goals were all LA needed to win.
Just over an hour before kickoff, the DraftKings Sportsbook increased the odds of Herbert throwing a touchdown pass from -800 to +100. And since Herbert didn’t throw a touchdown pass, many frustrated fans took to Twitter to accuse the league of being rigged.

This was only the second game of Herbert’s career in which he failed to throw a touchdown pass. The first team to do it? The New England Patriots, who shut out the Chargers 45-0 in Week 13 of the 2020 season.
The Broncos-Chargers game was entirely dominated by the two defenses. Herbert was sacked twice, and the Chargers brought down Russell Wilson four times. Each club turned the ball over once, and a whopping 19 penalties were called throughout the contest.
This game could have very well ended in a tie if not for a Broncos’ muffed punt in overtime that set up a short field for Hopkins to play hero. With the victory, the Chargers are now tied with the Kansas City Chiefs for first in the AFC West at 4-2, while the slumping Broncos dropped their third game in a row.
Last year, Herbert set the record for most passing yards and passing touchdowns through a quarterback’s first two seasons. It’s just unfortunate for those many DraftKings customers that his 38th career game happened to consist of zero TDs.
