NFL fans are discussing some potentially worrying news pertaining to the league and its referees.
There is a referee problem in the NFL right now, though there are no games taking place. While Commissioner Roger Goodell reckons refereeing has never been this good, fans largely disagree.
Referees and officials have been criticized for the inconsistencies that pop up in almost every big game, as well as missed pass interference and roughing calls. Super Bowl 57 was one of the most hotly debated games simply due to some of the refereeing decisions made toward the end.
Despite the above, that’s hardly the problem the NFL is facing with its referees. The issues lie in their departures.
According to Football Zebra, and as pointed out by Warren Sharp, 12 referees/officials have already left this offseason, marking just the second time such exits have reached double figures in consecutive years and the first time since 2013.
While there’s nothing in the way of a reason for this, fans are sounding off.

It certainly does look like we’ll be seeing a few new referees in the NFL next season and it’s probably not something fans will mind given the constant complaints.
But we can’t help but wonder what’s triggered all of the departures and whether they’re isolated or part of one big clearout.
