A prospect who could be playing in the NFL next season has shared a Bill Belichick story that is very on-brand.
The New England Patriots head coach is known for being a strict leader, some might even refer to him as a disciplinarian. But everyone respects the man, because he knows how to win football games and not much else matters.
Georgia Tech defender Charlie Thomas has already gotten himself a firsthand look at the HC’s methods, or his intolerance for mediocrity rather.
Speaking to Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald this week, Thomas revealed that Belichick was at East-West Shrine Bowl training earlier this year and had the punting team run a play again because they did not meet his standards.
“During one practice at the East-West Shrine Bowl, an annual showcase for draft prospects where the Patriots coached one team for a full week, Bill Belichick stopped everything,” Callahan wrote. “He confronted the punting unit that had failed to execute to his standards. He forced both sides to run it again.”
“It was very structured and disciplined,” Thomas was quoted as saying. “They’re straightforward. They’re going to tell you what you’re doing wrong, what you need to do to get better, and they’re going to be completely honest with you.”

This is certainly not more than we’ve come to expect from Belichick. He’s a six-time Super Bowl champion for a reason. But the Pats will hope they can compete for another chip next term and, who knows? Maybe Thomas might even be part of the team.
