The NFL regular season is nearly over, so games are increasing in importance. It’s why a certain player missed the birth of his child to make sure he was available for his team on Saturday, though he might have done otherwise had he known earlier.
Bengals offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr. had to watch the birth of his second son on FaceTime.
While he suited up against the Steelers on the day, Brown’s head had to be elsewhere while he was on the field as his fiancée’s water broke on the morning of the game, two weeks early.
“That’s one of those things, at the end of day, I’m thankful she understands and my family understands,” the four-time Pro Bowler explained, via Bengals.com’s Geoff Hobson. “For me, football is kind of everything right now. You don’t really get this opportunity back. You don’t get the opportunity to see a birth, either. For me, it was important to be there with the guys in Pittsburgh and to be out there with them.”
Unfortunately for the Bengals, Brown’s presence did not help them to a win, with Pittsburgh blowing them out 34-11.
The OT has played every single snap on offense for Cincinnati in 2023 and, in six years as a pro, has only missed one game.

Had he missed Saturday’s fixture, it would have been understandable. But he ended up foregoing one of the most important events of his life for a blowout loss. Still, he’s the proud father of a new, healthy baby boy named Sonny Brown.
The Bengals, now tied with the Steelers, Colts, and Texans for the final wild-card spot in the AFC at 8-7, will play the Chiefs, Brown’s former team, on Sunday in a game presenting high stakes.
