Less than a week ago, no one knew if there would be any football being played this weekend after Damar Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest during a Monday Night Football contest between the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals.
But with Hamlin’s recovery headed in the right direction, and his father urging the Bills to go out there and play for his son, it’s all systems go for all 32 NFL teams in week 18.
While they won’t be canceling any games as a result of his life-threatening incident, the league does intend to show their support for Damar Hamlin with several different measures.
For starters, all players throughout the league will have the option of wearing a black Nike shirt with the words “Love for Damar 3” on it.
Every game will also begin with a moment of silence to show support not only for Damar, but also for the first responders and medical caregivers who have helped keep the Bills safety alive. Home teams will also have the option of outlining the number “3” on the 30-yard line in either the color red or blue—both of which are Bills colors.
As for the Bills themselves, they will also be wearing patches with the number 3 on them, in honor of their teammate.

It’s bound to be an emotional weekend, especially in Orchard Park, where the Bills will be hosting the New England Patriots with plenty on the line for both teams.
Playing under these conditions won’t be easy, as Hamlin will still be on the minds of players, not only on the Bulls, but around the league. However, it will be comforting for them to know that the 24-year-old continues to progress. Just this morning, he was able to communicate with his Bills teammates after having his breathing tube removed.
