The fourth installment of Patrick Mahomes vs. Joe Burrow did not disappoint in the slightest.
Mahomes and Burrow traded blow-for-blow at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday night with a trip to Super Bowl 57 on the line. But after losing the first three meetings to Burrow’s Bengals, Mahomes and Kansas City finally broke through with a 23-20 victory thanks to a late Harrison Butker field goal.
Kansas City’s win came a year after they fell 27-24 to the Bengals in overtime of the 2021 AFC Championship, which was also played at Arrowhead. The Chiefs will next meet the Philadelphia Eagles at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
After the game, Mahomes and Burrow had a very brief but classy interaction on the field. In the clip below, you can see Mahomes tell Burrow “Many more, dog.”
It certainly feels like Sunday was just one of many more future playoff showdowns between Burrow’s Bengals and Mahomes’ Chiefs. Kansas City was playing in their fifth straight AFC Championship on Sunday, and Burrow has taken Cincy that far in each of his two full seasons.
Fans have waited a long time for the first great NFL quarterback rivalry since Peyton Manning vs. Tom Brady. Burrow vs. Mahomes is certainly off to a good start, and it certainly wouldn’t surprise anyone if their two clubs met again in next year’s conference championship game.
