Future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers could be on his way out of Green Bay this year, with the Packers understood to be open to trading him.
However, some people around the NFL don’t reckon his suitors should go all-in on trading for him. Interested teams include the New York Jets and Las Vegas Raiders, with both teams operating under bespoke QB circumstances this offseason. Rodgers could be the missing piece where both of them are concerned, yet there are folks around the league who reckon the player is not worth the headache he’s set to carry with him wherever he goes.
According to NBC Sports’ Peter King, the veteran signal-caller is embarking on a four-day darkness period, which has raised some eyebrows. King, who was relaying what he’d heard about Rodgers in Arizona during and before Super Bowl 57, added that the player could be more trouble than he’s worth.
“Rodgers starts what he called a four-day darkness period in the pitch dark of a home, alone, today, and there was eyebrow-raising among a few league or team people I brought this up with, the reaction being: I can see why the Packers would consider trading him. Seems like a good person, but he might be more trouble than he’s worth,” he wrote in Football Morning In America on Monday.
Rodgers has built a controversial reputation over the years. More recently, his misleading comments about his COVID-19 vaccination status and his use of Ayahuasca have been at the forefront. He’s also known to discuss wild conspiracy theories with his teammates.
While none of the above takes away from his ability as a quarterback, Rodgers isn’t getting any younger and there were some signs of decline in his game during the 2022/23 season.
