The National Football League is getting set for a huge meeting this year about the Washington Commanders sale.
Ben Fischer of Sports Business Journal reported this week that the league has informed owners to set aside July 20 and August 8 for special league meetings. He added that it is a “strong sign” that the league believes they are ready to vote on the Commanders sale one of those days.
The transaction will have to be approved by three-quarters of NFL ownership.
It was earlier this year when Commanders owner Daniel Snyder reached an agreement to sell his franchise to a Josh Harris-led partnership for $6.05 billion. If that deal is approved, it will set an NFL and U.S. sports record for the most expensive franchise sale.
While the number is huge, many just want it done to finally get rid of Dan Snyder in the NFL who has had a terrible tenure filled with losing and controversy that include multiple investigations for allegations of sexual misconduct, financial impropriety, and overseeing a toxic workplace.
As for Harris, he is also an owner of the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils. The partnership he has in the Commanders sale include D.C.-area billionaire Mitchell Rales and Basketball Hall of Famer Magic Johnson.
