One of the top columnists at NFL.com and NFL Network will not have his job in the next few days.
Taking to Twitter on Monday, NFL analyst Jim Trotter announced that his contract with NFL Media Group is not being renewed. This will be his final week at NFL Network and NFL.com after five years with the organization.
“Some personal news: This will be my final week with the NFL Media Group. I was informed over the weekend that my contract is not being renewed. I thank NFL Network and NFL.com for the lessons learned and affirmed over the last five years.”
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk would later add that Trotter was let go after he asked Commissioner Roger Goodell about diversity issues in the newsroom.
“In two straight pre-Super Bowl press conferences, NFL Network reporter Jim Trotter asked Commissioner Roger Goodell about diversity issues in the newsroom. Over the weekend, Jim Trotter learned his contract with NFL Network will not be renewed.”

The widely respected journalist received well-wishes and encouraging messages from his colleagues.
“My respect and admiration for Jim is hard to describe. His courage and conviction are traits that never wavered and should be appreciated,” Steve Wyche of the NFL Network tweeted.
ESPN’s Field Yates added: “Sorry to see this, Jim. I know it won’t be long until you land on your feet elsewhere.”
Bruce Feldman of The Athletic sung Trotter spoke up:
“Jim Trotter’s one of the wisest and best people I’ve ever worked with. For a long time he’s been the conscience of a league that often doesn’t have one. Some other company—and its staff—is going to be very fortunate to have him.”
