Ex-Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch wasn’t exactly keen on speaking to reporters during his playing days. And he didn’t care if it cost him a lot of money over the long term.
Lynch had several memorable soundbites when it came to talking to reporters. He memorably told reporters at Super Bowl 49 Media Day “I’m here so I won’t get fined” over and over again.
Months earlier, Lynch took a series of questions from reporters following a home win against the Arizona Cardinals. “Beast Mode” responded with a simple “Yeah” on the majority of the reporter’s questions — even inquiries that weren’t yes or no questions.
During an interview on Brandon Marshall’s “I Am Athlete” podcast, Lynch was asked how much money he gave up in fines to the NFL for not completing his media obligations. According to the Super Bowl 48 champion, the fees added up to more than $1 million.

The five-time Pro Bowler finished with 10,413 career rushing yards and 85 touchdowns. Lynch had a knack for showing up in clutch situations (see the “Beast Quake” game and his touchdowns in the 2013 and 2014 NFC Championship Games). If the Seahawks handled things right, he would have been the hero in Super Bowl 49 against the New England Patriots as well.
