Joe Montana is looking to hit the big bucks in the legal marijuana industry.
The San Francisco 49ers legendary quarterback was announced by San Jose, California-based Caliva that his venture capital firm was taking part in a $75 million investment in the company.
Via TMZ Sports:
“Caliva CEO Dennis O’Malley issued a statement saying the company plans on opening retail stores in major cities in 2019.
He added, “What we’re trying to do is be the #1 brand in California … We believe this is where global brands are made.”
As for why Montana decided to invest — O’Malley says Joe believes the company will “make a serious impact on opioids use or addiction.”
Montana joins a ever growing list of athletes who have ventured into the marijuana business that includes NBA player Cliff Robinson and former Heavyweight Champion Mike Tyson.
