Former NFL running back and football icon Jim Brown is dead at the age of 87, according to a family spokesperson relaying as much to the Associated Press.
The ex-football star, widely considered to be one of the greatest players to ever put on an NFL uniform, is said to have passed away peacefully at his Los Angeles residence on Thursday night, with his wife Monique by his side.
Brown was one of the first NFL players to be branded a superstar. He was the league’s MVP in 1965 and set many records in a relatively short career that began in 1957 and ended in 1965.
The nine-time Pro Bowler fired the Cleveland Browns to their last NFL title in 1964 before hanging it up to become an actor. He featured in over 30 movies, including The Dirty Dozen and Any Given Sunday.
Brown, also a civil rights activist, led the league in rushing yards in eight of the nine seasons he played.
We at TotalProSports would like to extend condolences to Brown’s family, friends, and loved ones.
