There were a ton of Franco Harris tributes being posted to the NFL’s official Twitter account last night, but one appeared to stand out from the rest.
That’s because the NFL had an embarrassing mix-up in it.
During a primetime battle between the Raiders and Steelers in Pittsburgh, the NFL posted a photo of a giant Mexican in the stands that was next to a huge banner with Harris’ number 32. It was pretty obvious the flag was an Mexican flag…well, at least to most it was.
Close, NFL. But that is NOT an Italian flag.
It’s understandable why the NFL may have originally assumed that there would be an Italian flag in the stands in support of the late Franco Harris, as his parents were from Italy.
They must have caught wind of their mistake, as the NFL deleted the tweet—but not before someone as able to take a screenshot of it.
