The National Football League is not going to sit around and watch their good name get dragged through the mud because one player has a big issue with the new helmets.
Antonio Brown, who is currently dealing with a foot issue caused by cryotherapy, threatened to hang up his cleats forever if he can’t use the same helmet he’s been using since he got into the league.
He also had his legal team issue a omnious threat to the league that they will be held liable if he were to get injured in the new helmet. Brown believes it obstructs his vision more than his old helmet.
The NFL responded to the situation on Monday.
“The player can’t practice or play in games with equipment that’s not approved. If he doesn’t play or practice he is in breach of his contract and doesn’t get paid. Nfl policy is that Helmets have to be certified by NOSCAE. They don’t certify equipment that’s old than 10 years,” NFL PR man Brian McCarthy tweeted.
Despite the controversy, the Raiders still expect Brown to be with the team in the next coming days, but there is no timeline for when he will be able to actually practice with the team.
