The NFL may reportedly flex Drake Maye’s New England Patriots into a Saturday game slot to showcase the talents of the rookie signal-caller.
According to a report from Patriots ESPN reporter Mike Reiss, the NFL may move their Week 17 home game against the Los Angeles Chargers into the Saturday slot on Dec. 28. Reiss states that it’s because the NFL wants to showcase their young signal-callers, including Drake Maye, with four other games in the running to be flexed into the Saturday slot:
“The NFL is strongly considering having the Patriots’ Week 17 home game against the Chargers played Saturday afternoon, according to league sources. A final decision is expected by Monday.
The league will choose three of five matchups — Chargers-Patriots; Broncos-Bengals; Cardinals-Rams; Colts-Giants and Falcons-Commanders — to air on NFL Network that day. The NFL loves to promote its young quarterback stars and, if the game is moved to Saturday, it would be a chance to expose Maye to a nationally televised audience for the first time.”

New England’s only prime-time game thus far was a Week 3 ‘Thursday Night Football’ clash with the AFC East rival New York Jets. Veteran journeyman Jacoby Brissett was the starter for that game, so Drake Maye has yet to be featured in prime-time.
The Patriots entered their Week 15 road game against the Arizona Cardinals as the last-place team in the AFC East (3-10). But the production of Drake Maye has been a bright spot, with a 67.2 completion percentage, 1,696 passing yards and 11 touchdowns against eight interceptions.

Drake Maye Has A Promising Future In New England
The Patriots failed Mac Jones, who once looked like the QB of the future with a Pro Bowl nod in his 2021 rookie year. But Bill Belichick, Matt Patricia and Joe Judge aren’t here to derail Maye’s confidence.
Say what you want about rookie head coach Jerod Mayo, but he’s done an excellent job getting Maye ready for the NFL. Upgrade his supporting cast in 2025, and Maye will be in line for a monster 2025 season.
