After the NFL regular season concludes, multiple teams will move quickly to find a replacement at the head coaching position.
There are several coaches who feel like sure bets to receive their pink slips at season’s end, while others feel like toss-ups. We’ll just have to wait and see how the next few weeks shake out, but one NFL insider thinks we could see nearly one-quarter of the 32 teams fire their current coaches.
A fan on Twitter asked Denver Broncos insider Benjamin Allbright of KOA Colorado how many teams will look for new coaches. Allbright responded with “7ish”, starting that the Carolina Panthers and Indianapolis Colts.
Allbright also mentioned the Denver Broncos, Houston Texans, Los Angeles Chargers, Washington Commanders, Arizona Cardinals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints. He also suggested that the Seattle Seahawks and defending Super Bowl Champion Los Angeles Rams could “potentially” make changes as well.
The Panthers fired head coach Matt Rhule earlier this season and replaced him with Steve Wilks, who was working as the defensive coordinator before taking over as the interim HC. Jeff Saturday, a former Pro Bowl center for the Colts, replaced the fired Frank Reich in November.
Among the other teams Allbright listed, the Broncos and Cardinals definitely feel like strong candidates to replace their current head coaches in Nathaniel Hackett and Kliff Kingsbury, respectively.

Ron Rivera has the Commanders in playoff position after a 1-4 start, and if they get in, it’s tough to envision Washington swapping coaches. Todd Bowles in Tampa Bay and Brandon Staley of the Chargers might be able to save their jobs if they get their respective teams to the postseason. Otherwise, it could be a different story.
It’s rare for teams to fire a head coach after just one season, but New Orleans is a bottom-five team with Dennis Allen, and the Texans boast the league’s worst record under Lovie Smith. Only time will tell if their respective teams stay patient, or if they’ll look to pull the plug quickly and search for replacements.
