According to one NFL insider, there’s only one factor that could put a stop to the seemingly inevitable trade that would see the New York Jets land four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers.
Apparently, that factor is none other than Mr. Rodgers himself.
Four weeks ago, Rodgers revealed on “The Pat McAfee Show” that he plans to join the Jets in 2023. The 39-year-old added that the Jets and Green Bay Packers just had to work out the trade compensation.
Here we are in the second week of April, however, and the trade has yet to materialize. On Monday, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio wrote that the only thing that could cancel the Rodgers trade is a change of mind:
“Rodgers, as we’ve explained before, didn’t accidentally use the “I” word. It was, and still is, an opening to change his mind. To alter his intentions.
But in the 26 days since he declared his intentions, nothing has changed. There has been no remark or leak or anything from Rodgers suggesting that this is all taking too long, and that the delay has caused him to reconsider his intentions.”
The Jets have wasted little time trying to upgrade the offense while awaiting confirmation on the Rodgers trade. They signed Rodgers’ old Green Bay teammate in Allen Lazard as well as Mecole Hardman, a two-time Super Bowl winner with the Kansas City Chiefs.
New York’s offense also consists of 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson, rising star running back Breece Hall and veteran Corey Davis. The Jets went 7-10 last season despite averaging just 17.4 points per game (the fourth-worst mark in football).

Robert Saleh’s Jets remained competitive thanks to Wilson, Hall and a defense that finished fourth in scoring. Adding Rodgers to the roster would make the Jets a bonafide playoff contender, and perhaps a Super Bowl 58 front-runner.
