With the Seattle Seahawks destined for a rebuild, does a Russell Wilson trade with the New York Jets make sense for all parties involved? According to one NFL insider, it does not.
On Thursday, Chris Simms answered some “fan mail” and took a question on who would say no to a straight up trade between the Jets and Seahawks with the Jets sending rookie quarterback Zach Wilson and the Seahawks sending back Russell Wilson.
Sims thinks the Jets would quickly say no to that trade.
“I would say the Jets say ‘No.’ They’re building something right now. Russell Wilson, I have a few questions about his game after this year. He doesn’t look like he’s moving nearly as well – in fact, Zach Wilson moves better than Russell Wilson… and Russell Wilson at time has trouble moving the ball down the middle of the field. I would stand pat if I’m the Jets. I don’t think the Seahawks would say ‘No,’” Simms said.
Seattle’s season is over as Russell Wilson will finish below .500 and with the worst record he has ever had since being drafted by the franchise.
Zach Wilson admittedly hasn’t looked the part this season, but New York is obviously rebuilding and he also has battled injuries. Also, he is much younger and the Jets would have to trust that Russell Wilson still had very good football ahead of him since he just turned 33 this year.

Wilson had 91 rushing yards in Week 16, the most by a Jets QB in franchise history, including a 52-yard rushing touchdown where he faked out of a pair of Jaguars defenders. He also completed 14-of-22 passes for 102 yards and 1 touchdown for a quarterback rating of 89.6. He led the NFL in ESPN’s QBR in Week 16 with a 92.4 rating.
He might not be what the Jets had hoped out of the gates, he could most certainly get better as the team improves around him with their high draft picks in 2022.
