The Cleveland Browns have a starting quarterback situation to sort out in the wake of the recent Deshaun Watson prognosis.
Watson is set to miss the rest of the season as he will undergo a shoulder operation after suffering a fracture during Sunday’s win against the Baltimore Ravens. And the Browns are now looking to sign a third QB for 2023’s remaining games.
Ryan Tannehill is among the veteran signal-callers linked to the team at the moment, but Schefter has ruled him out, revealing that the Browns seem like they’re after a signing for the practice squad because they will rely on Dorian Thompson-Robinson and P.J. Walker. There’s also a significant contract in play with the Tennessee Titans that the Browns would not be willing to take on.
“The Browns general manager Andrew Berry made it very clear this morning that they are focused on the two guys on their roster which is Dorian Thompson-Robinson and P.J. Walker. They’re gonna add a third quarterback but it sounds like it’s like a practice squad addition,” the ESPN insider said on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ on Wednesday.
“The issue with that is Tannehill makes a lot of money. … It’s a lot to get through. … Andrew Berry did not make it sound like that’s the way they were thinking.”
Thompson-Robinson is reported to be the QB set to start against the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday.
The Browns have also been linked to retired QB Philip Rivers while Tom Brady’s name has expectedly come up as well.
