Drew Brees acted like a man who was ready to ang up his cleats during there playoff loss to the Tampa Bay Bucs, but he has yet to formally announce it.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network confidently stated on Monday that Brees won’t be on the field in 2021, so what is the hold-up with his decision..?
Rapoport added that the 42-year-old is liekly stalling because the decision to walk away is very difficult for him.
“My understanding of the situation is he wants to do it when he is ready to deal with it and admit to it,” Rapoport said. “He’s played football his entire life. He’s always been a football player. It’s hard for someone to come to grips with the fact that they are retiring. He just wants to make sure that when he announces it he is fully at peace with it. That’s what’s going on. He is not going to play quarterback for the Saints next year.”
Adding to the fact that he will retire is that Brees reduced his salary to $1 million recently to give the Saints more salary cap space this offseason instead of a restructure that would signal he would be coming back.
Brees won nine of his 12 starts this past season, throwing for 2,942 yards and 24 touchdowns.
