The Cleveland Browns got closure and clarity with one quarterback last week and are hoping they are close to getting the same with another this week.
Browns training camp starts in just over two weeks and the team is fresh off trading Baker Mayfield to the Carolina Panthers after months of speculation. In return, they will pay a majority of the contract while Mayfield gave up money to make the deal happen.
Now, the team as well as the fan base are hoping for a resolution with their new quarterback, Deshaun Watson. Watson’s disciplinary hearing ended just before the long July 4th weekend with only a little bit of information coming out.
NFL insider Josina Anderson has offered an update on when a decision could come down regarding the Browns QB’s troubling behavior.
Per Anderson, “Post-hearing briefs are due ‘soon’ this week in the Deshaun Watson proceeding. This morning, a league source said this on the timeline for a result. ‘We’re still looking at a few weeks before we get a decision. It may or may not be before camp. Sue Robinson will take her time.’”
She added, “I’m told there are only 4 women currently “at issue” in the Deshaun Watson proceeding. The NFL concluded not to pursue 8 of 12 women interviewed. Re: a “5th” woman, the league tried to pursue, but never interviewed her. The league’s scope is currently* limited to 4, per source.”

After the briefs are submitted, Robinson’s ruling is the next step unless the two sides negotiate a settlement. A settlement seems unlikely.
If Robinson finds that Watson did not violate the league’s policy, the case is closed. If she finds that he did violate the policy, either side can choose to appeal the decision back to the NFL and Roger Goodell.
