Things got ugly during Thursday’s joint practice between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Los Angeles Rams, as Rams star Aaron Donald was spotted swinging a Bengals player’s helmet in the middle of a melee.
Many were calling for the three-time Defensive Player of the Year to be suspended following the incident, as it was only a few years ago when Myles Garrett was suspended for the remainder of the season after swinging a helmet at the head of Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph during a week 11 contest.
The NFL has since come out and said that they won’t be handing down any punishment, as it is the club’s responsibility to deal with incidents in practice. As a result, any punishment Donald faces will have to come from his own team’s front office.
Earlier today, it was revealed by a source within the Rams that the team is looking into the incident, and any punishment will be handled internally and remain private.

What this means is that if Aaron Donald is in fact punished, we’ll likely never know about it — unless they decide to suspend the All-Pro defensive tackle, which seems highly unlikely.
Chances are, they’ll just lighten Donald’s checkbook a bit by forcing him to donate a couple hundred-thousand dollars to a charity of their choice.
Rams Looking To Defend Their Title
The Rams probably don’t want to see Aaron Donald miss any time this season, as the 31-year-old wrecking ball decided to hold off his retirement in order to help his team run it back.
L.A. is coming off an incredibly successful 2021 campaign that saw them make it all the way to the Super Bowl, where they beat the very team that they were practicing against during Donald’s helmet-swinging incident — the Cincinnati Bengals. It’s no wonder things got so heated. After all, it was just over sixth months ago when these two teams were leaving it all out on the gridiron against each other as they battled it out for football’s biggest prize.
