Having drafted him first overall just four years ago, you could understand why the Cleveland Browns don’t want to lose Baker Mayfield for nothing more than a late-round draft pick. And they certainly don’t want to have to take on any of his salary, should they find a trade partner for him.
These are the Browns’ stipulations, but based on a recent report from NFL insider Josina Anderson, it doesn’t sound like any team out there is willing to meet them.
According to a source from a team that had interest in the Browns’ quarterback, it sounds like none of Baker Mayfield’s potential suitors has any interest in giving Cleveland what they want. The source’s exact quote on the situation was, “No one’s trying to do the Browns any favors in this situation.”
This obviously doesn’t bode well for the Browns, who were probably assuming they could regain some valuable draft capital by trading Mayfield, after they had given up a ton of it for his replacement, Deshaun Watson.
If all interested parties continue to play hardball with the Browns throughout the offseason, don’t be surprised if Baker ends up starting the season on Cleveland’s roster — especially if Watson is hit with a suspension from the NFL for his sexual assault allegations.
