Earlier in March, social media was set on fire when rumors surfaced that Odell Beckham Jr. could be on the trading block. One team came up that just came off a Super Bowl appearance as a possible suitor: The 49ers.
Not only that, former player Bart Scott made waves when he stated on ESPN radio that Odell Beckham Jr. is on the trading block, and “it’s real right now.”
“Just know you heard it here first,” Scott said. “I’m telling you right now, Odell Beckham is on the trading block and it’s real right now.”
Adam Lefkoe from Bleacher report added more vadility to the rumors when he spoke on how San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has been chasing Beckham Jr. for years.
“Kyle Shannahan is obsessed with Odell Beckham with his offense, and he offered the most. [New York Giants GM Dave Gettleman] did not want to move Odell to the Niners for two reasons. He didn’t want him within the conference, so he wouldn’t trade him within the NFC, which is why he went to the Browns. No. 2, he knew Odell would be so successful with Kyle Shanahan, that the trade would make him look very, very bad, so he would not move him to the Niners.”
However, insider Jay Glazer provided an update this week and effectively shut all those discussions down.

“Nope. No truth to that,” Glazer wrote in his mailbag. “Sorry, gang. I know the 49ers loved him but they are trying to rebuild draft capital, not give up draft capital.”
For the 2020 season, Odell carries a cap hit of $14.25 million.
If the Browns start the 2020 campaign with losing games, there is no doubt the franchise will look to move Odell and get something of value in return.
