Deebo Samuel formally made a request for a trade today. But the major reason he wants that trade is not because of money, it’s because of how he is being used in the 49ers offense. This past year saw Samuel emerge as a Pro Bowl and All-Pro receiver. But he was also used heavily in the ground game and finished as San Francisco’s No. 2 rusher while leading the team in yards per carry and rushing touchdowns.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, if he truly wants out of the Bay Area, then there should be four teams to consider for this blockbuster trade.
Per the report, the New York Jets, Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs, and Detroit Lions are all interested.
The Jets are the most notable team since head coach Robert Saleh, offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur, and many other members of their staff used to work with Samuel on the 49ers.
The Packers lost out on their star WR after trading Davante Adams to the Raiders. The same thing happened with the Chiefs when they shipped Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins. The Lions have holes about everywhere on their team.
There’s also no indication that the 49ers are even going to listen to offers. The front office will likely try all they can to fix the relationship before being forced to part ways with such a talent.
