A well-known NFL insider got fact-checked on X/Twitter after posting an incorrect statistic on Sunday.
Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team posted a stat that claimed brothers T.J. Watt and J.J. Watt are the only players in league history with multiple seasons of 19 or more sacks. But as you can see on the tweet, fact-checkers noted that this is incorrect.
Former New York Jets star Mark Gastineau actually had 19-plus sacks in three seasons (1981, 1983 and 1984), though it should be noted that the league didn’t officially start counting sacks as a stat until 1982.
As well, former Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos superstar and Hall of Famer DeMarcus Ware hit the 19-sack mark twice (19.5 in 2011 and 20 in 2008).
