The San Francisco 49ers have made the biggest move of the 2021 NFL Draft, a trade that puts the organization in prime position to land a franchise quarterback, even though reports claim they are sticking with Jimmy Garoppolo.
San Francisco moved up nine spots to No. 3 overall, trading away the No. 12 pick, a 2022 and 2023 first-round pick, and a 2022 third-round pick to the Miami Dolphins in order to complete the blockbuster deal.
NBC Sports’ Chris Simms went viral for stating that the 49ers should be looking at Mac Jones for that selection, a take that got him roasted on Twitter.
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen chimed in and actually agreed with it, while bringing up Trey Lance as a ‘fallback’ option.
In 2020, Jones completed 77.4% of his pass attempts for exactly 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns. For his career, Jones participated in 30 total games throwing for 6,126 yards and 56 touchdowns.
In his one full season (2019) with the North Dakota State Bison, quarterback Trey Lance completed 192 of 287 passes for 2,798 yards, 28 touchdowns, and no interceptions.
