New York Jets fans shouldn’t get overly excited about a trade for Aaron Rodgers just yet, according to one prominent NFL insider.
Over the past few days, multiple reports have indicated that the Jets are close to acquiring the Green Bay Packers’ star quarterback. Rodgers is scheduled to appear on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Wednesday, leading to further speculation that the four-time league MVP will announce a decision on his future there.
But during an appearance on “NFL Total Access”, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport indicated that a Rodgers-to-Jets trade isn’t quite near the finish line.

“Not there yet. Nothing is done, but at least the parties are communicating. That is what you would call progress. The Green Bay Packers and the Jets are not there…Rodgers has not definitively said this is where he wants to be.”
Rapoport explained that Rodgers’ appearance on McAfee’s program “makes you think that at least something will get done in the near future.”

Interestingly, ESPN’s Dianna Russini reported Tuesday that Rodgers has given the Jets a list of players he would like the team to add if he comes to Gotham. Russini noted that the list included Rodgers’ old friends and teammates in wide receiver Allen Lazard (he signed a four-year, $44 million contract with the Jets on Sunday), WR Randall Cobb, tight end Marcedes Lewis and free agent WR Odell Beckham Jr.
The Jets have lacked a bonafide franchise quarterback since Joe Namath, who played his final season for the organization back in 1976. Trading for a superstar like Rodgers would certainly lead to another level of optimism for a franchise that owns football’s longest playoff drought at 13 years and counting.
New York already has two big-time playmakers in wideout and 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson and running back Breece Hall. Lazard is part of the offensive unit as well, and now we wait and see if Rodgers will eventually join the group.
