The National Football League likely had a hard time taking Patrick Mahomes off a primetime game, but it’s only because they could see a blowout coming with an upcoming opponent. After the Broncos signed Russell Wilson, the NFL scheduled them for five primetime games. They have played four of those, but fans won’t be subject to that final one.
The Denver Broncos are done playing on primetime for the rest of the 2022 season and fans could not be happier to not be forced to watch them. The team was supposed to be on Sunday Night Football against the Kansas City Chiefs on Dec. 11, but they were flexed out of that spot because of how bad they have been this year.
The NFL decided to flex the Chargers-Dolphins game up to Sunday Night Football and move the Broncos-Chiefs game to an afternoon game.
This will be the Dolphins’ third primetime game and the fifth for the Chargers. The Chargers also have a Monday Night Football game on Dec. 26 and currently are scheduled for a New Year’s Day game against the Rams on Sunday Night Football.
As of right now, the Denver Broncos are on pace for the lowest-scoring season in more than two decades, averaging fewer than 15 points per game. Nobody wants to see them punt the ball 10+ times a game while Patrick Mahomes likely drops 30+ on them by halftime.
Wilson’s first season in Denver has been a disaster. The former Seahawks quarterback came in with high expectations, but so far he has been extremely underwhelming. The Denver Broncos are 3-8 heading into Week 13 and are on pace to finish last in their division.

Wilson has a passer rating of 82.3 with 2,369 yards, eight touchdowns, and five interceptions in 10 games.
