The New York Jets made quite the pitch to free-agent quarterback Derek Carr during his recent visit with the team.
The Las Vegas Raiders benched Derek Carr toward the end of the regular season, which may have affected his value. But he is still a respected QB around the NFL and made his fourth Pro Bowl this year in spite of the team’s odd decision.
The veteran signal-caller will be the one who dictates his future after getting the Raiders to release him instead of becoming a trade piece. And it appears the Jets are ready to promise whatever they have to in order to land him.
According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, the Jets told Carr they believe that he has the wherewithal to lead them to a Super Bowl and, should he find success in New York, he’s also going to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer.
“They ran through top to bottom why Derek Carr can step in here and take this team not just to the playoffs, but to the Super Bowl,” she said on NFL Live this week. “And they made it really personal, too. They said we believe if you come to New York and win, you could be a first-ballot Hall of Famer.”

Marcus Spears and Teddy Bruschi were unable to disguise their amazement. But Twitter didn’t care to coat theirs and the reactions have been wild.
The Jets may have done themselves more harm than good with this one. But maybe they really believe what they told Carr.
