Brandon Beane raised eyebrows on Wednesday with his comments on cutting unvaccinated players and now the NFL has spoken with him about it.
The Buffalo Bills general manager during a radio interview, said it would “be an advantage” to cut an unvaccinated player in order to “fall under the umbrella” of a hypothetical NFL rule.
“If you have X percentage of your players and staff vaccinated, you can live normal, let’s just call it. Back to the old days,” he said on “One Bills Live,” via ESPN. Beane called the theoretical rule “an incentive” for those who are vaccinated.
“If you don’t, it’s going to look more like last year. … I hope that, if those are the rules, we’ll be able to get enough people vaccinated and not have to deal with all the headaches from a year ago,” Beane said.
The NFL has since reached out to him, according to Pro Football Talk.
“According to multiple reports, the league spoke to Beane about his comments. They also offered a reminder that teams cannot release players due to their vaccination status. There is no mandate for players to get vaccinated in place and the league also has not formalized the kind of changes to protocols that Beane discussed on the radio.”

The coronavirus pandemic caused an upheaval around the world, and that included all sports across the table.
The Buffalo Bills did not allow fans into the stadium last season until they made the postseason. The team has already announced that fans at their stadium will only be allowed in this 2021 season if they have been fully vaccinated.
The league has also said that employees who don’t get vaccinated will have their access to team facilities significantly restricted.
