We know that veteran NFL signal-callers Derek Carr and Jimmy Garoppolo will soon find new teams, and Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers could very well get dealt as well.
But here’s a surprise name to watch closely on the trade market: Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields, the No. 11 pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, even though he’s coming off a solid sophomore season.
According to Jason La Canfora of The Washington Post, multiple NFL general managers think that the Bears will trade away their young quarterback.
The Bears hold the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and have the opportunity to take another promising signal-caller in Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud or Alabama’s Bryce Young. Keep in mind that GM Ryan Poles and head coach Matt Eberflus weren’t here when the organization drafted Fields 11th overall in 2021, so a Fields trade makes sense if they’re not fully sold on the Ohio State product.
If Chicago decides to keep Fields, there’s a high chance they’ll trade the No. 1 pick to a QB-needy team like the Houston Texans (they pick second overall) or the Indianapolis Colts (fourth overall). But if Poles and Eberflus decide they don’t want Fields, they’ll most likely retain the top pick and use it on Stroud or Young.
