Four NFL head coaches are reportedly on the hot seat entering Week 12.
There has already been one mid-season coaching change this year. The Las Vegas Raiders fired Josh McDaniels following a Week 8 loss to the Detroit Lions, with linebackers coach Antonio Pierce taking over as interim HC.
Now, Armando Salguero of OutKick Sports reports that the “job security for” four coaches “seems in peril” ahead of Week 12: Frank Reich (Carolina Panthers), Ron Rivera (Washington Commanders), Brandon Staley (Los Angeles Chargers) and Mike Vrabel (Tennessee Titans):
“But here we are a few weeks later and Vrabel, the guy one team was rumored to covet, now looks like and is being treated like a coach whose status with the Tennessee Titans is in peril.
That’s how it is with NFL coaches who are losing this time of year.
Their tenuous job security goes from being a whisper to full-throated conversation. That’s how it is now for Carolina’s Frank Reich, Brandon Staley in Los Angeles, Ron Rivera in Washington, Belichick, and even Vrabel.”
Reich, a renowned offensive genius, was expected to help first overall pick Bryce Young produce early and often. But Young has struggled mightily as a rookie, and Carolina enters Week 12 with football’s worst record at 1-9.
Rivera and the Commanders are headed for a third straight non-playoff season. Though they won the NFC East division in 2020, that was with a losing record of 7-9. The two-time Coach of the Year with the Panthers has yet to lead Washington to a winning season.

Staley’s ultra-talented Chargers have greatly disappointed and look poised to miss the playoffs for the second time in three years under his guidance.
Vrabel’s Titans are struggling across the board and are also set to miss the playoffs for the second straight year. But given his success in Tennessee (four straight winning seasons and three playoff berths from 2018 to 2021), it wouldn’t be surprising if Vrabel got another year (or longer) to fix this team.
